History Day is a year-long academic experience that culminates in regional, state, and national contests. If you are interested in competing or judging at a History Day contest, mark your calendars with the 2026 contest dates. Students must compete at Regionals to advance to State.
At History Day contests, teams of volunteer judges interview students and evaluate their work. This experience helps students develop career and college-ready skills. As a judge, you have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on young lives.
Judges provide feedback, inspire students to improve their work, and learn from students' research. History Day judges also select projects to advance from the Regional to State and National Contests.
All contest judges will receive an orientation on the day of the event prior to judging.
Teachers receive 4-6 renewal units.
